In the last two decades, Blackjack side bets have become increasingly popular. One of the best-known side bets is insurance, which is offered universally at all Blackjack tables. Card counters count on insurance as a major part of beating the game. Today, there are hundreds of side bets available at the Blackjack table. Depending on the type of blackjack table, these side bets can be placed on getting a pair as the first two cards, on the cards dealt by the dealer, or even on the dealer going bust.

Basic strategy

You can easily double down when you have a pair, but it’s important to follow basic blackjack strategy. When it makes sense, split your hand with a pair. It is a good strategy to double down if you’re ahead in value, but you should never split your ace against a ten. Double-down is a risky option in blackjack. Basic blackjack strategy also recommends that you don’t side bet when you have a low-value hand.

Side bets

Side bets on blackjack are an excellent way to maximize your profits, even if you don’t intend to make them. These bets don’t require any additional wagers, but they are a fun and significant part of the game. The most common side bet is an insurance bet, which is available when the dealer’s face-up card is an ace. It pays 2:1 if the dealer has blackjack, and costs half your initial bet.

If you are betting on blackjack, you have two options: standing or taking another hit. If you have a higher hand than the dealer’s, you win, otherwise you lose. Blackjack is a tiebreaker; when your hands are both valued at 21 or higher, you win. If you tie, you win a payout of 1:1. Otherwise, you lose, and your bet remains the same. If you lose, you keep your original bet, and the dealer wins.
